Class Information
We’re an inclusive and friendly studio offering a variety of classes and workshops for all experience levels. There’s something for everyone, with classes designed for kids (ages 6–12), youth (ages 12–17), and adults (18+).
Not at all! We offer classes for every skill level, from total beginners who have never touched clay before to experienced potters looking to expand their skills. Unless a class is specifically labelled as requiring prior experience, all of our offerings are open to beginners.
All classes are held at ClayWorks Studio, located at 111 Sherwood Drive, Unit 3, in Brantford.
For directions, you can find a detailed map on our Contact Page.
When you come to the studio, plan on wearing clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting a little messy. Most of the time clay washes right out, but things like wax or glaze might not, so an apron is a good idea if you’d like some extra protection. If you have long hair, it’s best to tie it back, and jewelry should come off before you start working.
If you typically wear your nails long, you might find that they get in the way, it’s much easier to work with clay if you keep them shorter. Old hand or dish towels are also super handy to have around, so feel free to bring a couple along.
One important note: ClayWorks Studio is a fragrance-free space. We ask that you skip perfumes, colognes, or scented products when coming in, since they can cause issues for people with sensitivities or allergies.
Some of our classes provide everything you need, so you can simply show up and enjoy the experience. If you’re unsure, any supplies can be purchased at your first class.
We now offer a wide selection of tools for students to use during class time. If you already own tools, it’s a good idea to bring your basics: a cutting wire, pin tool, trimming tool, a few ribs (rubber, wood, or metal), and of course any favourite tools you like to work with.
All clay used in our classes must be purchased through ClayWorks Studio to ensure it’s compatible with our kilns.
For Youth Wheel, we recommend waiting until the first class to purchase clay, as bags can often be shared between students. We now also offer half bags for your convenience.
For Adult classes, clay is not included in the class fee and will need to be purchased separately. We recommend PSH 455 Speckle for beginners.
Students who have completed at least one full 10-week class term are eligible to purchase studio time outside of classes.
